  5. Delete Now is a Contextual Menu Manager plugin, designed to be used with Mac OS 8.  It allows you to permanently delete individual files and folders from the Trash.  No longer do you have to empty the entire trash, just to delete one large file.

  10. Drag the ﾗDelete Now file to your closed System Folder.  The Finder will offer to put it in the proper folder for Contextual Menu Manager plugins; click OK.  Then restart your Macintosh computer.

  13. Using Delete Now

To use Delete Now, open your Trash icon, select one or more files or folders, and hold down the Control key while clicking on a selected item(s).  You should see a popup contextual menu containing the command Delete Now.  If you select the Delete Now command, the chosen items will be permanently deleted.  This is similar to selecting Empty Trash, except only the files and folders you select are deleted.

As a safety precaution, only items that are in the trash can be deleted using Delete Now; the Delete Now menu item will not show up unless the selected items are already in the Trash.  Also, the reason for the funny character at the start of the file name is to force the Delete Now menu item to the end of the popup menu, in order to make it less likely that the item will be selected by mistake.

  20. WARNING:  There is no confirmation alert before the plugin deletes a file or folder, and locked items will be unlocked before being deleted.  You should be certain that you want to delete the selected items before choosing "Delete Now".
